Participant: Professors, staffs and 60 students (10 groups)

The origin and development history of International

Capstone Design Camp and Contest

This camp aims to cultivate globally-minded talents, strengthen students’ ability to put what they have learned in school into practice to solve problems comprehensively, and encourage students to finish hands-on projects. It is hoped that through this camp the gap between traditional college education and market requirement can be bridged.

 

Students attending the camp come from multiple countries and are put into groups. Assigned with a common contest theme, members in each group discuss with one another through e-mail or video to come up with a proposal before the camp officially begins. Once it starts, students will have to strive to materialize their proposals.

 

To implement the proposals, students must use their acquired background knowledge to solve problems This will include finding solutions, producing blueprints, designing product parts break down illustration and listing out needed materials, which makes purchase easier. Finally, students also have to use machines and tools to produce the product. The whole processes can bring up student’s ability to solve complicated engineering problems, strengthen teamwork as well as effective communication and project management skills.

 

At the beginning, students usually feel nervous and confused because of language barriers, but after a while of learning and working together, they get into more vigorous conversations. Students who had participated before pointed out that through cooperation among group members they were rewarded a great sense of achievement.

 

There are three schools from three different countries included in the camp. Through working together closely we can achieve better understanding and cooperation as well as expand the international perspective. Moreover, students can experience the problem-oriented projects which are common in reality. In the camp, students all communicate in English and provide their specialties to help their team, which could strengthen international communication skills, group cooperation and hands-on experiences. Furthermore, through the international camp, students can make friends from all over the world and prepare themselves for this globalized world.

	Laser Cutting 桌上型雷射切割機（TA-S4030） 功能用途: 可切割各類型非金屬素材，定位經準度達± 0.1mm，最大切割範圍可達X軸400m × Y軸300mm × Z軸100mm。 Function: It can cut various types of non-metallic material and its accuracy of positioning of ± 0.1mm, the maximum cutting range up to 400m × Y-axis X-axis 300mm × Z axis 100mm.

	Scroll Saw 桌上型線鋸機（REXON SS-16SA） 功能用途:木板細部切削用設備。 Function: Equipment for cutting wood detail.
	Planer 自動鉋木機（REXON CT-508） 功能用途: 粗糙，厚薄不均之板材鉋平，角材鉋削，厚度縮減。 Function: Rough and uneven thickness sheet planed, and angles planning, thickness reduction.
	Sliding Compound Mitre Saw 多功能角度鋸（FESTOOL KS 120） 功能用途: 可控制不同切削角度，切割各類型厚度角材。 Function: Control the different cutting angles, and cut various types of material thickness angle.
	Plunge Router 路達機（FESTOOL OF1400） 功能用途: 木工修邊凹槽深鑿用 Function: Use to  deep grooves on woodworking chisel.
	Pendulum Jigsaw 擺線鋸（FESTOOL PSB300EQ-P） 功能用途: 手持式線切割機。 Function: Handheld Cutting Machine
	Eccentric Sander 電動無刷研磨機（FESTOOL EC 150/5 EQ-Plus） 功能用途: 大面積板材平面打磨。 Function: Flat grind a large area of the plate.
	Rotex 打磨邊角研磨機（FESTOOL RO 90 DX） 功能用途: 高速邊角打磨修邊。 Function: High-speed grind and trim edges.
	Column Drill 地上型鑽孔機（REXON DP-15A） 功能用途: 鑽孔用設備。 Function: Drilling Equipment.
	The Full-Sized Wood Lathe *木工車床-中 功能用途: 工作範圍D 430mm x Ø 260mm內，製作圓柱形物件及圓形曲面物件 Function: Specification-within D 430mm x Ø 260mm, forming cylindrical object and round curved object.
	The Midi Wood Lathe *木工車床-小 功能用途: 工作範圍D 330mm x Ø 220mm內，製作圓柱形物件及圓形曲面物件 Function: Specification-within D 330mm x Ø 220mm, forming cylindrical object and round curved object.
	The Mini Wood Lathe *製筆專用小車床(25-010M1) 功能用途: 工作範圍D 300mm x Ø 100mm內，製作較型小圓柱形物件及較型小圓形曲面物件 Function: Specification-within D 300mm x Ø 100mm, forming smaller cylindrical object and round curved object.
	Oscillating Spindle Sander *震盪式主軸砂光機(AL-0508) 功能用途: 工作臺上可打磨曲線和不同尺寸形狀。 Function: Polish curves and shape different sizes of object on the worktable.
	Bench sander *桌上型圓盤砂機 功能用途: 工作範圍內 Ø 300mm，可調整角度研磨物件。 Function: Specification-within Ø 300mm, able to adjust angle for grinding object.
	Charging Screwdriver *充電起子機 功能用途: 隨身型電動鑽孔及鎖螺絲工具。 Function: Portable electric drill and screwdriver.
